SEO Reseller
SEO Reselling, white label SEO or private label search engine optimisation is when an SEO provider supplies an end user with SEO solutions via a third party like a website designer or marketing agency.
Anyone who is familiar with the IT industry will understand the reseller model whereby one party generates a large part of their business based on reselling the services of a third party (in this case, a provider of search engine optimisation). It is normal for the reseller to add some value in some way and when it comes to SEO reselling it is most common for this to be offered to end users in conjunction with a complimenting service like website design, web development or something similar.
Unlike in other technology reseller type arrangements though, SEO is usually provided on an invisible basis. This means that the client is usually unaware that a third party is supplying the SEO services. They simply assume that their usual provider has additional resources and expertise in-house thereby allowing them to provide the SEO as well as the other usual services.
Being an SEO reseller is also more flexible than other usual forms of technology reselling because if the SEO provider transpires to be delivering work that is below the expected standard then you can easily switch providers with relative ease. Your customers will be unaware of the change and there isn't really anything that ties you to one SEO provider like there would be if you were to become a Microsoft reseller for example.
What are the advantages of becoming an SEO reseller?
- Improve your customer experience - you can add an additional service to your portfolio thereby allowing you to provide a more complete service
- Increased revenue per client
- Improved profitability for both SEO provider and the intermediary
- Zero upfront investment, no ongoing costs, no extra work or overheads.
If you operate in an industry that works alongside SEO then becoming a reseller can be an excellent way to grow your business. There is a growing trend of entrepreneurs that have an interest and a belief in the work that SEOs do but don't have the skills or expertise themselves so instead choose to 'buy in' the services from an SEO reseller and provide a solution to their customer base.
This is usually a relationship that works quite well however it often works better if you have a complimentary service to offer because then you have an added value point to offer potential clients rather than simply being another SEO provider!
It is also essential that you have some basic sales and account management skills because without this, being an SEO reseller is going to be extremely tough - and probably relatively unsuccessful.
How will I be paid?
It is common for SEO resellers to offer a commission on all sales or to actually provide the services at a discounted rate to allow you to become a middle man and offer the SEO services to your clients and still make a profit.
A commission is proving to be the more popular of options because it is far simpler. If you engage the services of an SEO reseller and they provide a package that is £450. They might say to you that they will give you £75 every month that your client continues to use the SEO service. This means that you can charge your client £450 a month and still earn something from the deal. In this sense you are more of an SEO affiliate but it is far more common for it to be called an SEO reseller.
If you had to enter into a traditional reseller relationship you would be forced to bargain the SEO provider down on price to perhaps £300 a month. You can then charge the client £450 and earn yourself £150 a month. Seems better doesn't it BUT think carefully before doing this because it may mean that the SEO provider cares less about the project (they are only making twice as much as you are and having to do all the work!).
Become an SEO reseller
Quite a few of the big SEO agencies out there are looking to recruit resellers for their SEO solutions. Our advice would be to look at one of the more specialised SEO resellers who see the reseller channel as their main route to market. Many of the big agencies are simply using it as a way to boost sales but aren't actually dedicated to the channel. Whereas the dedicated resellers won't see you as a threat to their main agency business (because they don't have one) and so will be more interested in helping you succeed.
In the UK, UP is a small but dedicated SEO reseller. They are based in the North West of England and have built a reputation for delivering powerful search marketing solutions at an affordable rate.
